Curiosity finally got to me...

For a while now, I've wondered what Bella's hair would look like straight. She doesn't have super curly hair, but it's fairly curly, especially on the sides and back. I can tell that her hair is getting longer, but it's not showing that in the length. The curls just get bigger. So after last night's bath, I decided I couldn't wonder any longer. I put her diaper on, and we went to my bathroom and got the blow dryer. She did good sitting still while I dried her hair. Probably because she occupied herself by brushing her teeth with my toothbrush (normally, I would be disgusted if someone else used my toothbrush, but I'm okay with her). Turns out, it was a mistake. I almost cried. She looked like a totally different child to me. Scott freaked. He said he would divorce me if her curls didn't come back (just kidding). So now I know, and will never do it again! We did take some pictures of her and it did surprise me how long her hair turned out to be!

I'm done messing with her hair for a while. Although I knew better, I was worried that I had somehow ruined her hair and her curls would never come back. Luckily, with some water and a brush, her hair was back to normal this morning!

Our Yard

As a child, I never understood why my parents spent so much time working on their yard. It seemed like every weekend, that's all they did (and still do). Now I kind of get it. There is something really satisfying about sitting on your porch with a cold beer or glass of wine at the end of a long day of working in the yard, and admiring your work.
This is the first house that we've really been able to make the yard our own. Our first house was already landscaped, which we never cared for, but never took the time to re-do. We didn't live in our second house long enough to get the chance to do anything. So, I've been really excited about this yard. It started as a blank slate, except for a few bushes planted in the front by the builder.
We have built a fence, planted trees and bushes, and with some help from my dad, added a large flower bed in the back yard. This weekend we finished what I have been calling "phase 1". Scott's thrilled that I've told him we're done for the year. Especially since he doesn't like working in the yard as much as I do, but somehow gets stuck with the hard jobs! He's a good sport though.

I thought I would share a few pictures of our work...
The front yard. We didn't do much, but added some azaleas and jasmine.

The hydrangeas and knockout roses in the back.

The flower bed we added with a Cleveland Pear tree, azaleas, gardenias and crape myrtle.

My little garden helper!

The trailing gardenias and my tomatoes!

A tomato!!

Blowing bubbles on the porch.

And more bubbles in the yard.

We love the cozy coupe!

A visit from my Grandmothers

So my 2 Grandmothers (Granny and Grandmama) came to visit us this past Sunday. Both of them live in the Rocky Mount area, and neither could make the drive to Wilmington themselves. So, my parents were nice enough to go pick them up and bring them for the visit. Actually, my dad drove from Fayetteville to Rocky Mount to get them Friday, took them to Fuquay-Varina to see my brother and neice, then took them back to Fayetteville to spend the weekend. Then on Sunday, my mom and dad took them back to Rocky Mount via Wilmington so they could see our new house. It was a long weekend for my parents, but I think everyone felt it was worth it.

Granny (my dad's mom) and Grandmama (my mom's mom) are two very different, but very special ladies. They both, in their own special ways, have taught me a lot about life. They, along with my mom, have given me good examples to follow as I make this journey through motherhood. In fact, Bella is named after Granny. Bella and Granny share a middle name, Gray.

We had a good time. We just cooked burgers and visited. Scott was the cook, as usual, and did a great job (even if he felt bad from poker night at a neighbor's house the night before!).

We did manage to take a few pictures...

I guess I'm starting a blog?

I'm still not sure about this, but I've decided to start a blog. Maybe it's because I've been reading other blogs that do such a good job of keeping people updated on their families, or maybe it's out of sheer boredom. I don't know. Hopefully, family and friends will stop in from time to time and see what is going on with us in our day-to-day lives, even if it's out of their sheer boredom. At least it will give my mom another website to visit when she's bored at work :) Although, most of our days are filled with the same things (watching Elmo, cleaning the house, figuring out what to cook for dinner, and hopefully squeezing in a quick run or bike ride), occasionally Bella and I do something that might be blog worthy. Hopefully, this will be something that I will actually keep up, rather than start a blog, only to have a few posts and stop.
I wasn't very creative in coming up with a name for my blog. I went with Littlest Lindsays. It just means that the topic of most of my posts will be about the little person in our house. I just decided to go with the plural "Lindsays" because I hope there will be more little people in our house one day. Not now, but one day.
I've thought about doing this for a little while, but decided to start today since it's raining and we're stuck in the house. Apparently, there is a tropical storm, so it's just supposed to rain ALL DAY. Nice. Just the way I want to spend a Saturday. I hate to complain though because I guess we still do need the rain. Although, I had hoped to go for a long run... Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

I feel like I've rambled enough, but since it's my first post and not about anything in particular, I'll post a few recent pictures.

Here's Bella on a recent day trip to Topsail Island. Although we live 6 miles from the beach, we haven't made it out there too much. Hopefully, we'll do better soon.

Here's one of Bella enjoying her favorite snack- popcorn. We have lots of pictures of her eating popcorn, just because we think it's hilarious. Maybe as she gets older, she'll learn to eat popcorn in a more ladylike fashion.

Here's another one of Bella showing how much she loves to eat. Scott was trying to enjoy a piece of birthday cake, and our little bird kept asking for a bite. Although, when she asks for a bite, she doesn't use words, she just comes up and opens her mouth. Another ladylike behavior that we will try and address in the future. Meanwhile, we think it's hilarious and take pictures.

Here's one of Bella showing off her new skill. Jumping. Although, I've yet to see air between her feet and the ground, she's proud of her new trick and so are we.
